thank you leaders. for having us read and study Mere Discipleship by Lee Camp. Kathleen and I have grown in our understanding of ourselves and those around us in our church family. We have been in prayer for this study and those that are teaching. At times the "heady" detail seems unnecessary but I'm not interested in many of the things others are so I think it is a great fit for us as a whole church. Thanks again. I'd love to hear what others think about the study since I can't attend the 9:00am setting.

"We Are The Sermon" was really special. If Jesus were to visit one church service in Georgia on Sunday he'd have probably come to ours. That is how much he appreciates the type of worship we had here yesterday. He likes your singing and words to him as well, but caring for God's other children is what Jesus was about and it was extra special.
He'd like for me to tell you that he is proud of you.
Our neighbor Ginger tearfully expressed her gratitude to me after everyone left last night. I'm sure each of the families you served were overwhelmed with joy and gratitude (maybe even moments of disbelief) at your kindness.
W.A.T.S. day is Christianity beyond surface level and I hope it was as healing for you as it was for me. Thank you for serving and connecting to God.
Thanks Pat, Tina, Shannon, Kathleen, Camille, Gavin, Nat, Bill, Steve

This year offers some exciting opportunities for SC members. The continuation of our small group style Sunday mornings, increased participation in localized weekly small groups, and the focus we have developed in our study and accountability of Spiritual disciplines should take us to places we've never gone before. We also have new members that need your support and constant attention. Consider yourself called to make a positive impact on our ministries. Support your church family in a new and greater way this new year.

James 1:27 “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” I pray that God will reveal to me my "world pollution" over the next year. What is your "world pollution."

I pray that Southern Crescent is ready to take out the trash. It can be a smelly job, but you can't keep it in the house.

Comments?

no church family is perfect. But our savior sure is, and he is dripping with mercy. You seem to have a lot of pain. Sometimes it takes some help to forgive. Jesus can lift you up and make you whole again, be courageous again, forgive others, and feel as special as you deserve.
As you have experienced- Jesus is wonderful; his followers aren't always. I will pray for you. thank you for being so transparent. I can feel some of your pain.
Honestly, SC would probably be a good place for you to come and heal.

To the Melody Koppe Family,
I just wanted to say a huge thank you for sharing your hearts today. I was challenged/touched/encouraged.I know it wasn't easy to share such a personal story but I know so many will now be better equipped to "walk through the valley of the shadow of death" and not "park in it". IN HIM---Todd Zeiler

Dear RA,
I’m writing you here because you asked not to be contacted; perhaps you’ll check back and read this. I want to encourage you to not give up on your search for relationship with God. I know he’s yearning for you; I believe that’s why you were at church Sunday. In light of what you’ve experienced, I know you have a tender heart to have even attempted a church service, and God must be at work in you for you to risk even more hurt. While my experiences have not been as traumatic as yours, I know the mind frame that has tormented you.
Whether it be Southern Crescent or another church, don’t give up searching for Him. I know comfort and peace are to be found. I have found them at Southern Crescent, and I am praying that you will find serenity, joy, and love with a spiritual family full of devotion to each other and dedicated to showing Christ in our community. I know great joy is to be found in Him. You are loved not because of who you are, but because of who He is. As we sang Sunday, “God is love.”
Warmly,
Susan Ryan

Christians are to be ministers of reconciliation. I pray that we will always focus on reconciling ourselves and others into an ever deepening relationship with Jesus Christ. Jesus desires that we draw ever nearer to him. I pray that this will be my heart's desire and my passion as I serve God as an elder at Southern Crescent. As the old hymn goes, "Less of Self and More of Thee." I ask all of the family at SC to pray this prayer for me.

In Him,
Mike Neill

I’m not sure why I so compelled to write...but I am. I am posting here, so I can keep my privacy. Please do not send e-mails.

I attended worship this morning for the first time at Southern Crescent. And, when the healing prayer was offered, I was moved to respond. I don’t know why because it is the “loving” members of the church which has caused my pain. Although I was raised in the church, I have been angry for many years, and I feel hatred and distrust toward the church of Christ as a whole. I’ve been to a few congregations hoping to find what I believe to be the true church, but I can’t seem to get past my anger enough to be objective. Today, I hope was the first step in healing that part of me. I felt something today which I have not felt in a long time–Hope.

About six years ago, the Forest Park Church of Christ “disfellowshiped” me when I chose to leave my husband. Within two weeks of me leaving the home, I received a letter from the elders stating, either I come forward or they were going to “put my name before the church.” Needless to say, I did not meet their demands. One of the elders later stated to me, “We are going to shame you into repentance” and he then stated that was the purpose of putting my personal business out to everyone. And they did just that. They stood before the congregation and told everyone I had left the church and abandoned my family. Then they sent letters out to neighboring congregations letting them know of my “sinful ways.” Needless to say, when I did try to worship somewhere I felt like I had a scarlet letter on my chest. So much for the church truly loving me and caring about my personal struggles. Since then, the name of God and the church has been used to inflict pain on myself and my children. My children are told, “Your mother is trying to send you to hell.” And because I was disfellowshiped, it is planted in their minds they should no longer be a part of my life once they become a Christian. I am treated as a nuisance that must be dealt with and not as a part of their family. I am happy to say so far my children have stuck by me, even though at times I have had to fight for my rights in court. However, my children’s pain (and mine) is enormous. To illustrate the position my children are place in one of them said, “It is not that I have to choose between my father and my mother, but between God and the devil.” The devil being me of course. I hope you can see how my distrust of members of the church of Christ is well founded. Today, I made a baby step in healing my pain, and hopefully I can guide my children away from the judgmental mind set they are familiar with, and toward being more Christ-like in their love toward others.

I may come back to Southern Crescent or I may not. I do know it is going to take more than a firm hand shake and a friendly smile for me to believe the true church still exist. But for the first time in six years I feel hopeful. If we never meet again this side of heaven, let me say thank you for giving me that.
